Their ground surfaces maintain exacting flatness tolerances (often within 0.001" per foot) to ensure uniform contact across the entire cutting edge. Advanced designs incorporate micro-beveled edges that reduce cutting resistance while maintaining edge durability.

Operational Synergy with Rotary Blades

During granulation, bed knives work in perfect concert with rotating cutters to create a precise scissoring action. The fixed position allows for exact control of the cutting gap - typically set between 0.003-0.010" depending on material type. Properly adjusted bed knives significantly reduce energy consumption by minimizing friction while preventing material wrapping around the rotor.
